The Cubano
+ Careful consideration of condiments (and other alliterations)
Great news -- Club:Sandwich has surpassed 100 members!
Better news: You’re one of them.
We could never have done it without secretly subscribing most of you without your permission. Please treat yourself to a great sandwich to celebrate.
The next milestone is 1,000 so now is the time to share this newsletter with 10 of your closest friends - or ones that aren’t that close. Doesn’t matter to us, really.
🇨🇺 🥪 Week 4 Challenge Spotlight 🥪 🇨🇺
This week we’re taking a break from the weekly challenge. Feel free to eat and share any old sandwich you want to the Million Sandwich Database. But if you're looking for ideas on what to order, one very special sandwich has been on our minds lately: The Cubano

One of the most hyped Cubanos from Sanguich de Miami
While not as ubiquitous as some sandwich debates, this one is at the center of the Cuban Sandwich Crisis: The battle between Miami and Tampa for which city does it best. As with any major debate, there’s only one way to prove a winner – continue arguing about it until the other party gets tired and gives up. I find it hard to believe anywhere but Miami could take the crown, but there’s only one way to find out…
One big reason we love the Cuban is how it uniquely takes a single type of meat (pork) and cooks it in two ways for the stack. This method has been the inspiration for a few of our homemade creations:
The Turkey Cubano, which we make with thinly sliced breast meat and confit thigh meat.
And the Reuben Cuban (or is it a Cuban Reuben? Reubano?), made with thinly sliced pastrami and pulled corned beef.
You can always get creative with the cheeses and condiments, but for our money Swiss cheese, pickles, and some form of mustard work extremely well on any variation -- there's a reason those are the ingredients on the original. Find or make a solid crusty roll to grill it on, and you’ll be more than all set.
With winter in full swing, it probably makes sense to head down to Florida for 3-4 months to try a few of the best and solve that debate once and for all. Meet-up at Sanguich?
🥒 🌶️ The Week in Review 🌶️ 🥒

Condiment share out - because sharing is what condiments are all about.
Speaking of sandwiches, we got more great-looking submissions this week -- a handful of breakfast bangers and other delicious-looking stacks. As is our custom, we’ve already shared a bunch of them through our instagram - @club.sand.wich. Follow if you want to track how badly we're clogging our collective arteries on any given week.
We also received two great recipes from the member who inspired Breakfast Week. Sharing them here if you’re looking for some new morning inspo.
For the makers: If you want to share one of your creations with your fellow club members, reply to this email with the recipe and we’ll be glad to highlight it in an upcoming newsletter.
And lastly, we’re finally sharing some of your best condiment suggestions. There’s a nice variety. And lots of spiciness. Here's your roundup.
Trappey’s Indi-Pep: A go-to with eggs. Just the right amount of acid and spice. Not too hot, so you can be generous without obliterating taste buds.
Glory Sambal Nasi Lemak: Sweetish + spicy chili paste with crunchy fried anchovies in it. Typically enjoyed with a Singaporean coconut rice dish (Nasi Lemak) but great with lots of things. It SLAPS on an egg sandwich.
Yellowbird Habanero Sauce: Breakfast sandwiches are just an excuse for me to shovel hot sauce into my face.
Rick’s Picks Hotties: Spicy sriracha pickle chips. These really bring the heat. Almost like putting a jalapeño on.
Nico’s Fish Market El Habanero Guava Carrot Sauce: Amazing spice and amazing flavor. Would pair well with anything brunch or seafood.
Cholula Green Pepper Hot Sauce: Recently restocked this in our pantry after too long of a layoff. Hot and tangy in all the best ways. Add it to anything.
Wingstop Ranch: Not too thick and not too runny, it’s hands down the best ranch I’ve ever had.
For a few more, check out our condiment gift guide from a few weeks back. Now you have plenty of great stocking stuffer ideas, just make sure the lid to the ranch is secured tightly.
🎅🕎 See you next week! 🕎🎅
