Good Gravy!

And we need your feedback on some merch ideas

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because it's a great reason to get together with family and friends and pig out. I was lucky enough to host this year, which meant, in addition to the main feast, I've been facing down a fridge full of leftover turkey, gravy, stuffing, mac & cheese, and cranberry chutney all weekend.

So naturally, I threw it all on a sandwich.

Carb heavy? Yes. But the stuffing and cheesy pasta were a nice contrast to the sprouted wheat bread from one of the East Bay's finest bakeries. And while the cranberries lost some of the crunch they had on Thursday night, their tangy sweetness really balanced things out.

This year, I'm thankful for the wisdom I showed in only eating half of this thing

Last year I took the bread into my own hands, baking a loaf of sandwich bread and piling on the turkey confit, porchetta (we changed things up a bit with the meat last year), melted provolone, mustard, and spicy pickles for my Thanksgiving take on a Cubano.

This sandwich was, as they say in the business, really good

In addition to celebrating Thanksgiving and remembering sandwiches of turkeys past, the Club:Sandwich team marked another special occasion last week: One year ago, we officially announced the creation of this wonderful community through our first newsletter

If you were part of the inaugural newsletter, you may recall thinking, “This will never last.”

But here we are, at the end of 2025, and we're working on some fun things we plan to share with you very soon.

For instance, did you know we've been building a Club:Sandwich app this whole time?

The initial idea for this club was an app where we could all rate, review, and share our sandwich-eating (and making) experiences with each other, away from the nonsense I associate with the more mainstream social media hubs.

Kind of like Goodreads for sandwiches (if you're a book reader) or like Letterboxd for sandwiches (if you're a movie lover) or like Vivino for sandwiches (if you're a wine lover) or Untappd for sandwiches (if you're into craft beer).

The point is we are very freaking close to having something we're proud enough to share with you all.

And we want to celebrate that fact. With merch.

Swag.

You know, T-shirts and hats. We've seen some great examples of sandwich-themed shirts over the last year. And drawing on them for inspiration (simplicity, esoteric puns, sports) we asked the Club:Sandwich R&D team to work up a few concepts.

Do you have a favorite? Or a better idea?

Reply to this email and tell us what you think.

If we like yours the best, or if we draw your name out of a hat, (or if you're the only one to respond) we'll send you a sweet Hoagie T-shirt (not pictured, but it's super cool.).

It probably won't fit, but it will always serve as a reminder of your place in this special community.

So here are a few examples of shirts we've seen in the wild, and some more we've worked up on our own.

Baseball Ts

Close readers of the newsletter will remember the #19 from Langer’s. The rest of these we’re considering for our first run of swag.

Other sports gear

Sandwiches transcend sports. Why limit them to baseball?

Punny Enough

Then we spotted this one in a New Jersey sandwich palace, where they make a surprisingly good turkey avocado (not the first sandwich I think of when I think of New Jersey).  Now I’ve never seen the show it’s referencing, but I still appreciate the joke.

Based on some quick Googling, I assume it comes with a pickle

That got us thinking about puns, and led to this similarly niche concept.

This one is for those of you who also belong to Club:Middle Age

And given the season, this one just kind of came naturally. Maybe we'll put it on a tote bag.

From the bottom of our hearts… Sandwiches

As you can see, we have too many ideas and we need your help to sort through them. So drop us a line at [email protected] (or just reply to this email).

Until next time, here we go Hoagies!

Club:Sandwich is the world's first ever members-only club for sandwich lovers (as far as you know). Together we discover, order, make, eat, and discuss sandwiches while building the largest, most comprehensive database of sandwiches ever. Grab or make a sandwich and then share it with us by adding it to the Million Sandwich Database. Uploading sandwiches will earn you points that have no value and cannot be used in any way.
