Reuben Round-Up
+ The most important meal of the day
Along with the delicious-looking Reubens you submitted this week, we’ve shared a bunch of your other sandwiches on Instagram. Have a look.
And if you want to eat a Reuben but didn't get a chance to grab one last week, go for it. There’s no due date, so please keep ‘em coming.
Week 3 Challenge: 🍳🥓🥯 Breakfast of Champions 🥯🥓🍳

The Vermonter: It comes from Connecticut 🤷
If someone mentions breakfast sandwiches, my mind goes straight to some form of eggs on bread -- from the Jersey classic Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese, to the somewhat more refined but no less decadent Croque Madame.
So when a friend this week shared a breakfast sandwich she makes loaded with peanut butter -- no eggs in sight -- I realized I had unfairly pigeonholed this category.
This week we want to see how you start your day. Maybe there's an egg in the mix, or a go-to bagel schmear, or just some avocado smashed over a thick slice of toasted bread. However you make (or order) your breakfast sandwich, show us. Even better: Ditch your morning meeting to have one with a friend.
🚀🚀 The week in review 🚀🚀
MSD Count: With 13 new sandwiches submitted this week we’re just 999,962 submissions from our goal. At this rate, we're on pace to complete the database in roughly 3,000 years, give or take.
Feedback and updates:
“I want to get a Reuben but I need more time!” - No problem, get one and submit it whenever, or get something else and submit that. Really there are no rules. (Except when there are.)
Club member Right Said Bread told us, “You’ve opened the door for me to stop not eating bread. You have unleashed the beast. 10 years of gluten free out the window.” - Not sure how this will turn out but at least we’re inspiring people? Also -- let's see your gluten-free favorites.
We’ve had members in Pittsburgh, LA, and Chicago ask us to supply them with sandwich targets in their cities to go out and report on. If you want a target from us, shoot us a note and we’ll find something tailored to your location and likes. We’ll be doing more with this in the new year (think Sandwich resolutions) -- so stay tuned.
So far, we’ve had 10 responses to the optional “condiment” question in the form. Thank you to those who submitted! I guess everyone else just eats dry sandwiches?
If you still wanna share your favorite condiment, drop it in the form before we update the question after this week - or email us anytime. We’ll be reporting back on the condiment submissions and creating a new optional question in the form next week.
We’re looking to cast a wider net for the newsletter. Do you know anyone who might enjoy this sort of thing? Maybe a friend or loved one who also likes dry sandwiches? If so, feel free to forward this and encourage them to join.
🎥🥪🤩 Sandwiches on Film 🤩🥪🎥

Samuel L. Jackson taking a bite of the sandwich classified as “Big Kahuna Burger”
I saw an exhibit this week called The Clock which is a 24-hour film that strings together clips from movies and TV representing the time of day for each minute that passes. This got me thinking about whether there was a similar work for sandwiches found in movies. There are some shorter videos on YouTube, but nothing super robust.
I turned to AI to see if I could compile a larger list, which it helped me do. But it also claimed, unprompted, that a burger wasn’t a sandwich when it listed the Big Kahuna Burger scene from Pulp Fiction.
This naturally caused an argument -- an argument I won. And resulted in a written apology from said AI.
Someone once said that there's nothing more boring than hearing someone else describe the dream they had the night before. Well, you can put that claim to the test by reading the full exchange with the AI bot, here. There’s a full view of the argument, and multiple lists of movies with great sandwich moments. (Hint: Those are good burgers, Walter.)
Until next week!
