Pssst... I see bread people

+ Wishing for a wishlist?

Color us impressed at how seriously you all are taking your 2025 sandwich goals. Since Jan 1, we’ve had a great response in the MSD, getting us over that 100 submissions hump. A bunch of club members have gone out and hit top sandwich targets from the wishlist and shared back reviews and photos. That makes us very happy and hungry. Thanks!

Just two weeks ago, we talked about dipped sandwiches. And already(!) we’ve gotten the Pho sandwich at Little Kirin NYC and the French Dip at Philippe LA accounted for. From our initial 2025 list we also tracked at least one Muffuletta from Central Grocery, and a confirmation that the #19 at Langer’s is in fact “legit, and not overhyped at all.”

Even a few veggie sandwiches have come through to satisfy our healthy sandwich lifestyle goals (Disclaimer: These veggie sandwiches may not actually contribute to a healthy lifestyle 🤷).

Let’s have a look at some additional, unedited reviews from the full mouths of your fellow club members:

Collard Green Melt from Turkey and the Wolf in New Orleans: “Gooey and messy, all the ingredients in harmony, perfectly toasted delicious bread. The collards were so good on their own and great as the star of the sandwich.”

Roasted Cauliflower from Radio Bakery in Brooklyn, NY: “This comes with an herb tahini that had some mix of dill and mint involved. It was an absolute bomb of flavor, yet surprisingly simple. I think it was the best one of the 3 sandwiches we tried here and they were all excellent.”

And we’ve had submissions to check off some stunners from your own personal wishlists:

Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Coleslaw from Bakesale Betty in Oakland, CA: “Legendary fried chicken sandwich with spicy, acidic cabbage slaw.”

Egg Sandwich from Thai Diner in NYC: “This breakfast sammy is atop a few lists and jumped out at me when doing research for where to bring my brother-in-law for a quick catch-up before he returns to the Midwest. First of all, roti may be the most underrated, or perhaps unrated wrap ingredient out there. It's flaky, yet spongy, providing a satisfyingly greasy depth of flavor AND a super functional carrier for the ooey gooey goodness that lies within. Inside, a generous amount of basil is dressed in a creamy and indistinct white sauce atop a super flavorful soft sausage pattie. All of the above are melded together with melty American cheese just to remind you where the sales tax is going. The chili dipping sauce just compounds the fantastic time you're undoubtedly having with this unforgettable way to start the day. Phenomenal experience all around, including the cheery, jokey waitress, ambience and price tag. The only remaining question would be, is this actually a breakfast burrito as opposed to a sandwich?”

Turkey and Ham Club from Irvine Ranch Market in Costa Mesa, CA: “From the deli, I ordered a custom ham, turkey, and bacon club sandwich on ciabatta bread, along with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. A classic combo!”

Ice Cream Sandwich from Curbside Creamery in Oakland, CA: “A nice hunk of malted vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Delicious.”

Grilled Reuben from Sherman’s Deli in Palm Springs, CA: “Grown-up sandwich porn, starring my newfound sandwich porn alter ego, Paul Reubens. Perhaps I have overshared…”

All of the above submissions came with the highest honor in our ratings system, which is simple but so often true - “It was amazing. I want another one!” Told you it was impressive.

On a related note, we’re working through the development of an app around all of this Club:Sandwich meshugas. I mentioned “wishlists” a couple of times, and that’s something we’re focused on as part of the experience.

Do you have thoughts about the wishlist? Please let us know by replying to this email with your feedback. If you’re struggling with how to convey your feelings, you are welcome to select one of the options below:

  • “All I’ve ever really wanted in life is a simple way to catalog sandwiches that I see and then want to eat.”

  • The Michael Jordan “Stop it. Get some help.” meme.

We won’t be offended.

Okay, I’m off to South Florida in a few days to track down and check off the Cubano at Sanguich. Will keep you posted!

Thanks for reading and eating!
